Richmond is the capital city of Virginia. It has a large art community with venues such as the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and a classical movie theater from the 1920’s called Byrd Theatre.Richmond was once the Capital of the Confederate States of American and therefore has many historical sites and historical museums, such as the Museum of the Confederacy and various American Civil War battlefields. Other historical attractions include the Edgar Allan Poe Museum, John Marshall House, Hollywood Cemetery, and St. John’s Church. Performing arts in the area consist of the Virginia Opera, Richmond Ballet, Richmond Symphony, and the Richmond Coliseum music venue. Richmond doesn’t have a professional sports team, but does have a triple A minor league baseball team, USA Rugby team, and a US Soccer League.Richmond is home to the Richmond International Raceway which has 2 annual Nextel Cup races.
